Aukje

This comforting warm, soft and luxurious plaid is made of mohair wool from adult Angora goats. From the wool of our young angora goats we make our cardigans, sweaters and scarfs. We are very excited that by making these plaids we have a good destination for our adult mohair, which has a somewhat coarser structure than mohair from young goats. Nevertheless, this mohair is characterized by its soft handfeel.

The making of Aukje starts at our farm and studio in Baambrugge, where we keep our beautiful Angora goats. We shear them once a year and after the shearing we sort the wool by quality. In this case, we collect the adult mohair and pack it to send it to France.

In France we have a partnership with French mohair farmers. This is one of the few places in Europe where angora goats are kept on a larger scale. By collaborating with the mohair farmers, we stimulate the conservation of the angora goat and thus also mohair within Europe.
The French wool is, just like in Baambrugge, checked and sorted and then combined with ours and prepared for transport to Italy.

Once in Italy, the wool is washed, carded and combed at a wool processing plant. The wool is spun into yarn and prepped for further processing. The wool is also dyed in Italy. Both the processing and dyeing of the wool is done following the GOTS standards. This means that production takes place in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The product must also meet certain quality requirements in order to receive this quality mark. For example, the processing company has its own water treatment plant to separate the valuable wool fat and reuse the water.

Back in France, Aukje is brought to life! Industrial weaving machines weave the spun yarn into the beautiful plaids.

Finally, the plaids arive at our studio in Baambrugge. Here we pack them for you with love so you can enjoy yourself at home together with your cozy and warm Aukje.

The amazing properties of mohair wool

Mohair wool is light, super soft, and strong. It has a beautiful shine and a lovely furry texture, is elastic, and regulates humidity. This wool cools you down in summer and keeps you comfortably warm in winter. On top of all this, mohair has antibacterial qualities and it’s completely biodegradable. It requires little care, as wool is self cleaning, so some fresh air is enough to keep enjoying your plaid for years.

Choose your colour

Aukje is available in 6 colours: Off-White, Pomegranate (deep red), Plum (reddish purple), Flower Stem (soft green), Brook Blue (grayish blue), and Apple Blue (turquoise). The color Off-White is the goats' natural color, the rest of the colors have been dyed.
