We are very proud of our Dutch Merino. In 2019 we had our own merino wool processed in Italy in collaboration with 4 other merino breeders in the Netherlands. We have done the entire processing process as sustainably as possible. Both washing and dyeing are done in GOTS certified companies. GOTS Is a standard that uses as little polluting dyes and chemicals as possible. Unfortunately we cannot call the wool GOTS certified because we as farmers are not certified, but our wool is of course completely free of chemicals and animal welfare is completely okay. We've been in Italy every step of the way and captured this in a video. There is about 400 meters on a 50 gram ball of Dutch Merino. We recommend that you always knit a sample first and then wash to check the number of rows and stitches.
The amazing properties of merino wool
The fiber of the wool of merino sheep is much thinner and therefore softer than the wool of traditional Dutch sheep. The wool adapts to the environment. It has a beautiful shine and a lovely furry texture, is elastic, and regulates humidity. This wool cools you down in summer and keeps you comfortably warm in winter. On top of all this, merino wool has antibacterial qualities and it’s completely biodegradable. It requires little care, as wool is self cleaning, so some fresh air is enough to keep enjoying your favorite item for years
Choose your colour
Our merino colours are undyed, dyed naturally or synthetically. The colors sand and taupe are the natural colors of the coat of a sheep. The synthetic dyed wool in dark blue and dark grey is GOTS certified. This certificate stand for the most sustainable way of dying. The natural dyed dark blue and dark grey is painted with natural indigo and with wood bark. Please keep in mind that the colorfastness of natural dyed wool is little less than the synthetic one.
