Lamb season!

Over the past month, The Knitwit Stable has been enriched again with the arrival of lambs! Both the sheep and the goats have had plenty of lambing in the past month. In this photo you see an Angora goat whose wool is super soft and suitable for our Dutch Mohair! The younger the goat, the softer the wool.

And another fun fact: Did you know that ewes recognize their lambs by sound, smell and the appearance of the lamb? The bleating of the sheep or lamb has an important function, especially in the pasture. In the first phase we place the ewe and the lamb in a maternity pen to promote good mother-lamb bonding, so that they can effortlessly find each other when they go out into the pasture.

We Are The ReGeneration

We were interviewed by We Are The ReGeneration!

"Every year, about 1.2 million kilos of Dutch wool are lost because sheep farmers cannot get a decent price for it. At the same time, we buy mountains of plastic clothing, which are made under appalling conditions in Asia and wear out quickly. While a wool sweater costs up to 75 can last for years... With The Knitwit Stable, Reina Ovinge wants to make consuming less the norm and show that - if you do it right - wool is a lot less harmful to the Earth than is often thought."

Hand knitting with Dutch Mohair

We mainly knit by machine with the yarns we develop. But we are even more excited to see you hand knitting with the Dutch Mohair from our young goats!

We offer a combination deal with a knitting pattern for a shawl or scarf with an openwork pattern in light blue, dark gray or dark blue. Also for beginners!

The scarf requires 4 balls and costs €85 together. The shawl requires 8 balls and these now only cost €175. You get the pattern for free!

Masterclass From Goat to Garment

Also in English

Our farm and knitting studio is the only initiative in the Netherlands that maps the entire production chain of a sweater: from keeping the animals, processing Dutch wool into yarns to the production of a locally and fairly made woolen end product. To provide insight into this process, we organize master classes. You will meet our animals, learn about the different coats and take a look at our knitting studio! In this full-day masterclass you will not only receive information about the world behind a sweater, the path from the animal to the garment, but you will also go home with your self-knitted hat made of Dutch wool! Lunch and coffee is included for this day.

Dates for upcoming master classes:

  • May 3 - master class
  • June 10 - master class

The cost of the masterclass is €225 and you can pay for it via the payment link below. Please state your name and the date when you would like to take the masterclass in the description. If you want to take the masterclass with several people, you can pay for the link several times.

Knit your own mohair shawl!

In addition to the master classes we organize, we now also give a workshop on how to knit your own shawl on the knitting machine! No experience on the machine is necessary.

This wonderfully warm and soft shawl is made from mohair wool from young Dutch goats. Mohair has an additional character trait of a beautiful shine and its hairy texture makes it super soft, light and durable. In our workshop we offer instructions for knitting this shawl in light blue, dark gray and dark blue! The cost of this workshop is €195 and you will go home with your self-knitted mohair shawl worth €290.

New dates for this workshop:

  • April 21 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • June 2 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Mother's Day tip)

The cost of the masterclass is €195 and you can pay for it via the payment link below. Please state your name and the date when you would like to take the masterclass in the description. If you want to take the masterclass with several people, you can pay for the link several times.
