Rough sweater made of Dutch wool

The Dirko is our best-selling traditional Dutch sweater made from 60% Dutch wool 20% merino and 20% Alpaca. This mix of fibers gives the Dirko a unique mix of properties: the Dutch wool offers a tougher appearance, which is then softened by the addition of merino and alpaca. This sweater is unisex and has raglan sleeves and a higher ribbed collar.

The special properties of Dutch wool and alpaca

Wool from Dutch sheep is not often seen in clothing production, even within the Netherlands. Dutch wool is characterized by a tougher appearance due to its coarser fibers and hence is seen as too rough and itchy to wear against the skin. This view has led to the devaluation of Dutch wool and the disappearance of the Dutch wool industry altogether. 

In our products, we utilize this overlooked local resource by looking for varieties with a lower itch factor as well as combining our Dutch wool with other fibers like merino and alpaca. This mix of fibers allows our products to have the traditional appearance of Dutch wool while adding a level of softness.

Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

 Choose your color and size

For this jumper, you can choose from four colours: off-white, sand, taupe and dark blue. The off-white, taupe and sand are the natural colour of Dutch wool and have not been dyed. All yarns of our synthetic colours are washed and dyed according to the GOTS standard. This means that the amount of harmful chemicals has been kept to a minimum.

This jumper is semi-fitted and has a turtle collar (8 cm). For men In size medium, the length of the jumper (from the highest shoulder point) is 68 cm and chest width 48 cm. The sleeve length of the Dirko is (from centre back) 85.5 cm. For women's size M, the chest width is 46 cm , the length is 62 cm and the sleeve length(from centre back) is 80 cm. Would you like to adjust the size or have a lower neckline ( e.g. 4 cm ) ? Please mention this in the remarks when ordering.

 Made to order

We work according to the made-to-order principle. This means that we will only start producing your item after you have placed your order. The delivery time is 2-4 weeks. But we promise: it's worth the wait. And the nice thing about this: you can also indicate your wishes if, for example, you want the item to be made slightly shorter or longer.
