The Dorus is a robust, unisex beanie that is fully ribbed for a comfortable fit. This hat is made from a blend of local Dutch wool with soft alpaca and merino. Thanks to this mix of fibres, the Dorus has a unique blend of properties: the Dutch wool has a tougher look, which is then softened by the addition of alpaca and merino.

The special properties of Dutch wool and alpaca

Wool from Dutch sheep is not often seen in clothing production, even within the Netherlands. Dutch wool is characterized by a tougher appearance due to its coarser fibers and hence is seen as too rough and itchy to wear against the skin. This view has led to the devaluation of Dutch wool and the disappearance of the Dutch wool industry altogether.

In our products, we utilize this overlooked local resource by looking for varieties with a lower itch factor as well as combining our Dutch wool with other fibers like merino and alpaca. This mix of fibers allows our products to have the traditional appearance of Dutch wool while adding a level of softness.

Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

Choose your color and size

You can choose from four colors for this hat: offwhite, sand, taupe and dark blue. The offwhite and sand are the natural color of the wool and undyed. . All yarns of our synthetic colors are washed and dyed according to the GOTS standard. This means that the amount of harmful chemicals is kept to a minimum.

The Dorus is 29 cm long including the folded edge of 8 cm. When the edge is folded over, the total length of the hat is 22 cm. The width after folding is 26cm. The Dorus is suitable for a head circumference of up to 60 cm.
