Sjors
Sheep wool socks
There they are! The typical goat wool sock but then made of sheep wool with alpaca. In the past people already knitted socks. People repaired the socks themselves with pieces of leftover yarn, because knitting socks is quite expensive and time-consuming. With the enclosed piece of wool and darning needle you can now repair the socks yourself. We have knitted a short and a long version of the Sjors so there is something for everyone!
From residual wool to socks - Towards a regenerative bio-circular chain of Dutch wool
Coarser wool from Dutch sheep is often seen as a waste product and we want to do this differently at The Knitwit Stable. With these socks we save a lot of wool and we want to show that there are also circular ways of production.
The production of these socks was made possible with the support of the Province of Utrecht and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Europe invests in its countryside. We were able to purchase a machine specifically for knitting socks. Through this project we were able to set up collaborations with other farmers, shearers and shops and there were educational activities to spread the knowledge about bio circular processes.
