Spring Fever at The Knitwit Stable

We are gently feeling spring emerge. The days are getting longer, the light is changing, and things are stirring on the land again. While winter for us was mainly about knitting, finishing, and delivering, the focus is now shifting back outside, to the soil, the landscape, and everything that grows there.

On Monday, March 2nd, we will take an important step. We will plant the first 200 meters of fodder hedges on the property. Hedges that provide more biodiversity, shade for the animals, natural minerals in the soil, and better water management. They reinforce what we already do with rotational grazing and fit into our regenerative way of farming.

Today, the pregnant ewes were shorn by sheep shearer René, with the assistance of Cees. Lambing season is approaching. A special time on the farm. Every year, it’s a reminder of where it all begins: with healthy animals, on healthy soil.

In April, we will sow crops for natural dye pigments for our wool. Later this year, walnut trees, willows, alders, and additional fodder hedges will follow. Herb-rich grassland is also planned. In this way, we are gradually building a landscape that not only produces wool but also strengthens soil life and enhances the well-being of our animals.

Connecting for Progress

From March 19th to 27th, the future of textiles will be central during the Week of the Circular Economy.

At Future Textiles, we are working on a system where clothing starts again from the soil: with natural fibers, locally produced, and designed to last and be reused.

This change is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.

For this week, we are also opening our doors with an open day on March 21, 2026.

During the open day, you will gain insight into every step of the production process from animal to wearable garment.

The program consists of:

• Explanation about the sheep & goats, origin, care, and animal welfare

• Explanation about wool and fleeces, thickness, types, and how to use them

• Watch the inspiring documentary: 'From Goat to Garment.'

• Gain insight into how a sweater is industrially knitted and linked in our studio.

• Good Conversation, exchange of ideas with fellow teachers and professionals (morning program)

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to walk around, have a cup of coffee, and get acquainted with the beautiful collection of The Knitwit Stable. The items are available in limited editions or made especially for you upon order.

Pieter Pot X The Knitwit Stable

Together we save Dutch wool, the 'Don't Waste Me' beanies are back!

Just like last year, Pieter Pot and The Knitwit Stable are joining forces again to save yarn made from Dutch wool from waste.

At The Knitwit Stable, we do everything we can to restore value to Dutch wool. With care, we make sweaters, cardigans, scarves, and beanies from our wool. But sometimes, a knot forms in the yarn during knitting, or there's a small error in the knitwear. It's a shame to throw it away. That's why we rewind this yarn and give it a second life.

From this rescued wool, the 'Don't Waste Me' beanies are made: soft, warm beanies from Kempen wool, blended with a little alpaca and merino wool for extra softness.

NSFO Circularity Label

On January 29th, we gathered with other sheep farmers for an inspiring study evening. We are pleased with NSFO's Circularity Label for Sheep Farming.

The label stands for business operations that fit within circular agriculture: attention to pasture management, animal health, nutrition, and environmental impact. A valuable step towards future-proof and nature-inclusive sheep farming.
Proud of this recognition and the pleasant conversations with fellow farmers. Together we make the sector stronger!  

As a connecting gesture, every sheep farmer received a beanie made of Dutch wool to take home, a tangible reminder of the value of our own raw material.

Textile Transition Academy

We are pleased to inform you about the Textile Transition Academy, Materials, Models, Movements. This valuable program was developed by Fibershed NL in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), various partners, and frontrunners in the sector, including The Knitwit Stable.

The Academy is specially designed for professionals, innovators, and changemakers within governments, the textile sector, and the world of sustainability and circular economy. Anyone who wants to deepen their expertise and actively contribute to the transition to a regenerative textile system is welcome.

The program starts during Future Textiles in the Week of the Circular Economy in March and concludes during the State of Fashion Biennale in June.

Dutch wool as a connecting corporate gift

What a special collaboration to look back on.

For Koninklijke Van Wijhe Verf, we had the opportunity to develop and knit an exclusive family winter sweater from Dutch wool from the heath sheep, combined with alpaca. 100% pure, 100% biodegradable, and entirely made with care in our knitting studio in Baambrugge.

It's beautiful to see in the shared video how much attention and craftsmanship goes into each sweater. From fiber to finished product. The fact that this sweater was then used as a connecting gift for employees and relations during their New Year's reception makes us truly proud.

What moves us is that such a gesture is more than a garment. It stands for appreciation, connection, and shared values: sustainability, quality, and Dutch craftsmanship.

At the same time, it tells an honest and local story, something more and more organizations are consciously choosing.
