Throw made from Dutch-French mohair
This wonderfully warm, soft, and luxurious throw is made from the mohair wool of our adult Angora goats. We use the finest fibres from our young goats for sweaters, cardigans, and scarves because their wool is especially soft on the skin. In the mohair industry, products are typically made from the wool of younger animals, but it would be a shame not to use the beautiful fibres our adult goats produce. With our new throw, Aukje, we finally have a beautiful purpose for this slightly coarser – yet still exceptionally soft – wool.
From goat to throw: the journey of Aukje
The journey begins at our farm and studio in Baambrugge, where we care for our Angora goats. We shear them twice a year and sort the wool immediately afterwards. The adult mohair is collected and shipped to Northern France.
In France, we work with farmers who keep Angora goats on a larger scale – one of the few places in Europe where this still happens. By collaborating with them, we help ensure the future of the Angora goat and strengthen the European mohair supply chain. The French wool is checked, sorted, and combined with ours, then prepared for transport to a washing and spinning mill in Italy.
In Italy, the wool is washed, carded, combed, and spun into yarn. Dyeing also takes place here. All processing is carried out according to GOTS standards: environmentally responsible, socially fair, and supported by modern facilities, such as an in-house water purification system that recovers lanolin and reuses water. In addition to certification, we regularly visit these facilities ourselves to ensure the work aligns with our values.
Back in France, Aukje truly comes to life as the throws are woven on traditional looms using the carefully spun yarns.
Finally, the throws arrive at our farm in Baambrugge, where we wrap them with love so you can enjoy curling up on the sofa with your new favourite throw: Aukje.
