Busy amid the tranquility

This month, too, we have been busy with production for our collaborations. Especially for the Jan Merino sweaters, which we have been making in collaboration with Joe Merino for the fifth year in a row.
The Jan Merino sweater is made from 100% Dutch wool and shows that the wool industry in the Netherlands can get a new chance.

Good new steps have been taken this month and exciting new opportunities are on the agenda for the coming period. Such as making progress in circularity on the farm and a special invitation to Rome.

The World Wool Forum in Rome

We are proud to announce that The Knitwit Stable has been invited to speak at The World Wool Forum in Rome. Hosted by none other than Isabella Rosselini, Italian actress, model and farmer, Lidewij Edelkoort, trend forecaster, publisher, philanthropist, lecturer and exhibition curator, Ilaria Venturini Fendi, in collaboration with Philip Fimmano, the World Hope Forum and international industry supporters. On October 2, 3 and 4, they will bring together international leaders from the design, fashion, interior and textile sectors with farmers, thinkers and innovators who are doing inspiring work.

The aim of this three-day conference is to provide a platform for sharing, exchanging and collaborating, thus predicting the future of wool fibres while preserving sheep farming, animal welfare and artisanal heritage. Want to know more? Click on the link!

Always wanted to feel how our sweaters, cardigans or accessories really fit? Then book a fitting appointment with us! These fitting appointments are ideal for seeing, feeling and trying on your cardigan, sweater or accessory. In addition, there is an opportunity to take a look at our farm, meet the animals and see the mini-factory in action.

During the fitting, you can order your favourite item and customise it to your wishes. Your sweater or cardigan will then truly be custom-made. After approximately 2-4 weeks, your ordered cardigan or sweater will be ready. Accessories can often be taken home immediately.
You can visit during office hours. Simply plan your fitting appointment via our appointment calendar on the website.

We have extra fitting mornings on the following Saturdays:

The first cold days

You can resist as much as you want, but the first colder days are really starting to arrive. This doesn't have to be a bad thing at all. At The Knitwit Stable, we love wool and sweaters and would love to share that love with you. Brave the cold and make it fun with the stylish and semi-tailored Dide sweater.

This sweater is mainly made from Dutch kid mohair. This fluffy wool is super soft and doesn't itch. Due to the moisture and heat regulating properties of the wool, it cools in summer and warms in winter. This makes it the ideal sweater for this transitional weather.

Behind every thread and every sweater at The Knitwit Stable is a team full of passionate makers. In the upcoming newsletters, we would like to take you behind the scenes and introduce you to the people who work with heart and soul on our mission: honest, local wool and clothing with character.

Next in this series: Meet our intern Maxime! Maxime is our first intern from Wageningen University, where she is pursuing a master's degree in Resilient Farming and Food Systems. Maxime wants to work in the field where agriculture, food, and textiles converge. Read her story below!

The next step in circularity

As you know, circularity is an important concept for The Knitwit Stable. This not only refers to the circularity of the wool but also, for example, the way we manage our land, the use of willow branches (feed for our goats, wood chips for the paths and possibly as dye in the future) and, of course, the use of electricity.

For the latter, we have taken a next step. Since its establishment, The Knitwit Stable has been using the 84 solar panels on the roof of our studio to power the knitting machines. Since this month, six batteries have been added to store excess solar energy so that we can use it later when the sun is not shining. This makes your sweater even more circular!

Meet the RIXT Cardigan.
From a shared love for wool, The Knitwit Stable has joined forces with FANT.

FANT is a company that focuses on natural materials and with whom we have had previous successful collaborations.

The RIXT Cardigan is made of 100% merino wool. A self-cleaning, flame-retardant, moisture-regulating and biodegradable material, ideal for the first cold days of the year.
