Nieuwsbrief juli 2024

Behind the scenes

The past few weeks have been all about the photo shoot of our new items for The Knitwit Label, and despite the typical Dutch weather with some rain and a meager sun, we were able to take beautiful images again.
During the photo shoot there was a nice interaction between the models and our animals. Our sheep and goats are not only an essential part of our production but they are also a beloved part of our team. We can't wait to share the new images with you, keep an eye on the socials and our newsletter for the news about this winter.

Collaborations

Yumeko

The Knitwit Stable collaborates with other like minded brands, makers and designers. Together with these partners we make a difference. In the summer, when it is quieter, we knit these items. Yumeko is one of the collaborations.

We knit hot water bottle bags for Yumeko, knitted locally with Dutch wool. The majority (60%) of the wool comes from the Kempisch heideschaap, a flock with a small ecological footprint. Furthermore, the hot water bottle bag consists of 20% merino wool with a Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) quality mark and 20% wool from Dutch alpacas to make it even softer.

What does regenerative clothing mean?

Fashion United

This month, Esmee Blaazer wrote an interesting article on the website for Fashion United about the emerging sustainable term 'regenerative'. The term 'regenerative' is appearing more and more often. But what does it actually mean? What is meant by regenerative agriculture practices and is there such a thing as regenerative fashion?

Read the entire article and discover what role The Knitwit Stable plays in the production of regenerative clothing. A good example of the pursuit of regenerative clothing is our Douwe cardigan in the color sand, which is made of 60% undyed Dutch wool, 20% Merino and 20% Alpaca.

Scott cardigan

Kempisch heideschaap

The Scott is a robust vest made from the wool of the Kempisch heideschaap.
This vest is undyed and has the natural color of the sheep. The cardigan has buttons and knitted pockets at the front.

Cardigan Scott was made in collaboration with nature grazing company De Wassum, which allows the Knitwit Label to make this beautiful cardigan from their previously unusable wool.
If you would like to know more about our collaboration with De Wassum, you can read about it on our Blog .

Repair

Darning needle & thread

At The Knitwit Stable we believe it is important to take care of clothing. One of the ways to do that is to repair your clothes. By repairing your clothes you give them a longer life and reduce the impact of the clothing industry on the environment. When you buy socks from The Knitwit Stable you get a darning needle and a piece of yarn, in case the sock wears out after frequent wear. Research shows that if you extend the lifespan of your garment by 9 months, its impact on the environment is reduced by 20 to 30%.

In our repair video on YouTube you can see how to strengthen vulnerable parts of the sock so that there won't be a hole in the sock.

Have fun repairing!

Bluetongue virus at The Knitwit Stable?

Interview with Cees

Many concerned people ask us whether the sheep at The Knitwit Stable are affected by the bluetongue virus. We understand these concerns and have asked Cees, who takes care of our sheep every day, how things are going.

Cees: “The virus is currently mainly found in the south and east of the Netherlands. The sheep at The Knitwit Stable have been vaccinated, vaccination is the most important preventive measure we can take to protect our flock. Fortunately, our sheep have no symptoms of Bluetongue, we have to wait and see whether the vaccinations work.”
