With our own brand, The Knitwit Label, we create sweaters, cardigans, shawls, and hats from wool using our own animals as a basis. With our label, we practice what we preach: not only do we provide insight into how to create a transparent, sustainable product with wool, but we also demonstrate it.
Clothing from Our Own Sheep
In addition to our own wool, we also gather sheep, alpaca, and mohair wool from fellow breeders and Dutch sheep farmers whom we visit personally. With this sustainably sourced wool, we create stylish, local, sustainable, and transparent end products with fair pricing. This way, we restore the value of wool to what it deserves: a naturally luxurious product produced with respect for humans, animals, and the environment.
We have eighteen Merino sheep and fifteen Angora goats freely roaming on an eleven-hectare piece of land. The fleeces of our animals serve as the foundation for our yarns. This enables us to learn firsthand about wool quality, responsible breeding practices, proper landscape management, animal behavior, and animal welfare. It allows us to apply our knowledge directly and be transparent in our process from sourcing to the final product.
As Local as Possible
Since there is no longer a professional wool processing industry in the Netherlands, we collect the wool and have it professionally washed and spun into yarn in Italy. We are constantly seeking production possibilities closer to home, with the quiet ambition of bringing the entire chain back on a small, professional scale. By wearing this item, you are investing in research, materials, and machines for knowledge transfer and awareness in the fair, local wool chain.
Animal Friendliness
We keep our sheep ourselves and ensure they are treated with the utmost care and love. We also oversee this at the farms we collaborate with. Shearing and processing wool are done according to the official guidelines set by The Responsible Wool Standard. The washing and dyeing of our wool are GOTS certified, meaning the use of harmful chemicals is minimized.
Made-to-order
We follow the made-to-order principle, which means we only start producing your item after you place your order. This way, we prevent unnecessary stock and waste. Due to this method of work, the delivery time varies from 2 to 4 weeks. But we promise you: it's worth the wait.
