Price Transparency

Every garment has a story, a cost and an impact

Our commitment to sustainability

Sustainability is a value that has been built into the DNA of the Knitwit Stable since we first opened our doors in 2015. Since then, we have been on a journey to provide transparency into the process of sustainable wool production, through our website and social media as well as with our training courses and lectures. But transparency isn't only about the supply chain.

Cost breakdown

Animal maintenance:

These costs cover the maintenance of the animals living at The Knitwit Stable. This includes land management, breeding program costs, their food, medical needs and the labor costs for our team to care for them.

This cost covers the production and purchasing of our materials. This includes the collecting of wool from our own sheep as well as purchasing wool from other local farmers. Because there is no longer a professional processing industry in the Netherlands, we send the wool to Italy and Belgium. That's why we also incur the expense of sending our wool to Italy to be washed, carded, spun and dyed. The trims of our products, like labels, are included in this cost.

Manufacturing:

This cost covers the price of manufacturing our products. This includes the cost of using the knitting machines, linking of the garments, sewing in buttons and labels as well as packaging the product.

Company costs:

These costs cover all operating costs of the company. This includes the costs of maintenance and upkeep of machines, rental, office supplies, software, accounting, marketing, communications and utilities. All ongoing costs arising from the normal daily operations of the company.

VAT:

All of our prices include 21% VAT. The Value Added Tax is a consumption tax that applies to almost all goods and services that are bought and sold for use or consumption in the European Union.

Transport:

This cost includes the price of packaging and transportation of our products. Only included on purchases that need to be shipped.
