The special properties of alpaca

Alpaca wool is a natural fiber that is made from the fleece of alpacas and has many characteristics that make it wonderful for all kinds of garments. This fiber is ultra soft, durable and exceptionally thermal-insulating, meaning that you’ll stay cool in the summer and keep you warm in the winter. The reason for this is due to Alpaca’s hollow fibers which allows for breathability. Additionally alpaca is hypoallergenic and has antibacterial properties so garments hardly need to be washed; airing them out is often more than enough. This way your favorite sweater will last for generations.

Alpacas are mainly found in South America, but we also have them here in the Netherlands! All of our alpaca is sustainably sourced from the Netherlands and we have selected the softest wool with various Dutch alpaca breeders!

A wonderfully light yarn consisting of one 'brushed' thick thread. The colors off-white and camel are the natural colors of alpaca. The dark blue and blossom are GOTS certified dyed. Unfortunately, there is no professional wool processing industry in the Netherlands anymore, this yarn was washed and spun in Northern Italy.

A ball of Dutch Alpaca of 50 grams contains about 90 meters. We advise you to always knit a test piece of 10cm x 10 cm first to check the number of rows and stitches. With knitting needle 8 we end up with about 11 stitches and 17 rows.
