The felt is made from the wool of the Dutch Kempisch Heath Sheep. Due to the rise of synthetic materials, almost no Dutch wool has been used for about 30 years. As a result, the wool industry in the Netherlands has all but disappeared. The Knitwit Stable is committed to gradually making the sustainable processing and production of wool in the Netherlands possible again. After all, wool is a strong, easily recyclable, and biodegradable material. The sheep from the grazing company De Wassum graze mainly in protected heathlands in the Netherlands, which helps to keep the landscape fertile. In the felt, you can still find pieces of straw and other plant material that remind you of the grazing on the heath. By making this designer felt, we are taking another step towards using Dutch wool.
