Masterclass for businesses at The Knitwit Stable

From an international fashion company to a farm with sheep and a knitting studio in Baambrugge. This masterclass will be held by Reina Ovinge, the founder of The Knitwit Stable.

The Knitwit Stable holds its master classes at a farm & knitting studio in Baambrugge. Here, the entire production process is brought together under one roof with 50 goats and sheep, two industrial knitting machines and four linking machines. During the ‘Sustainability and Transparency’ Masterclass, you will gain insight into the total wool chain, covering all sustainability topics. During this one-day Masterclass, you will become wiser mainly by doing and experiencing. You will gain a better understanding of the process, allowing you to communicate more efficiently and have more realistic expectations regarding sustainability, design and production. Because you yourself are at the heart of production, you will come up with surprising new ideas about your own role in the creative process. This leads to more time for creation and innovation! We will also show you the documentary ‘From Goat to Garment’ to give additional insight into the entire supply chain of mohair.

The master class starts with merino sheep and angora goats. Here, important issues such as:

What are the important sustainability topics?
Is shearing animal-unfriendly?
What pesticides are used?
Which furs can you use?
What does raw wool cost?
What is the footprint of wool?

How is wool spun?
How does industrial knitting and linking work?
What can you do with wool and - also important - what not?
What certifications are there?
In the afternoon, you will also get to work yourself. You will get explanations and instructions to knit a hat or a technical swatch on a Brother hand knitting machine.
