Masterclass From Goat to Garment

  • also in English

Our farm and knitting studio is the only initiative in the Netherlands that maps the entire production chain of a sweater: from keeping the animals, processing Dutch wool into yarns to the production of a locally and fairly made woolen end product. To provide insight into this process, we organize master classes. You will meet our animals, learn about the different coats and take a look at our knitting studio! In this full-day masterclass you will not only receive information about the world behind a sweater, the path from the animal to the garment, but you will also go home with your self-knitted hat made of Dutch wool! Lunch and coffee is included for this day.

Dates for the master classes:

March 11 - masterclass VOL
March 31 - master class
May 3 - master class
May 20 (*ENGLISH) - masterclass
June 10 - master class

The cost of the masterclass is €225 and you can pay for it via the payment link below. Please state your name and the date when you would like to take the masterclass in the description. If you want to take the masterclass with several people, you can pay for the link several times.

Hand knitting with Dutch Mohair

We mainly knit by machine with the yarns we develop. But we are even more excited to see you hand knitting with the Dutch Mohair from our young goats!

A few of our batches appear to be less suitable for knitting on machines, but extremely suitable for knitting by hand. That is why we have reduced the price of these balls from €22.50 to €17.50.

We also offer a combination deal with a knitting pattern for a scarf or shawl!

Please note: the dark blue color looks slightly different in the photo. In real life it is a deeper shade of blue.

Knitting with Dutch Mohair

Knit your own mohair shawl!

In addition to the master classes that we organize, we now also give a workshop on how to knit your own shawl on the knitting machine! No experience on the machine is necessary.

This wonderfully warm and soft shawl is made from mohair wool from young Dutch goats. Mohair has an additional character trait of a beautiful shine and its hairy texture makes it super soft, light and durable. In our workshop we offer instructions on how to knit this shawl in light blue, dark gray and dark blue! The cost of this workshop is €195 and you will go home with your self-knitted mohair shawl worth €290.

New dates for this workshop:

  • March 3 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • March 24 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • April 21 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • May 12 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
-June 2 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Fitting mornings

It is the best thing to have an item that fits perfectly. It is also important to feel the different qualities of wool and see the colors in real life!

We organize fitting mornings so that you can try out different sizes, feel our items and view the different colors. All our products are made-to-order which means that we can make the model shorter or longer so that the item fits perfectly!

Next Saturday, February 25, we will organize another fitting morning. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM you are very welcome to visit our farm in Baambrugge. During the fitting morning you can meet the animals and take a look at our mini factory! Send an email to info@theknitwitstable.nl if you want to come along to the fitting morning.

If it doesn't work out, we also have fitting mornings on March 18 and April 15.

Wool sorting day

On March 4 we are organizing a wool sorting day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM for volunteers. On this day we will sort the wool so that we can send it to the laundry in Italy. We remove straw and manure from the wool and check the fiber length and quality. This allows the best wool to be washed and spun in Italy, so that we can soon knit beautiful sweaters from it here in our mini factory.

Would you like to come and help us? Please register by sending an email to info@theknitwitstable.nl . We provide a delicious lunch and coffee!

Joe Circular Crew

Our latest collaboration with Joe Merino is the Joe Circular Collection. The sweater and plaid consist of 50% old fibers from 'old' Joe Merino sweaters and 50% new merino wool. The Joe Circular collection is still 100% biodegradable! Because the yarn is recycled from old blue sweaters, the history of the sweater used is visible through the richly mixed color. Production took place in Baambrugge.

Take a look at one of the Joe Merino stores to see what the result is!
